With the upgrade of the Aviation Media web site, we have re-activated the blog. In the process we imported quite a few of the posts from the old site up to 2013. We will start with a new line of posts for 2015. So, stay tuned!
Wow, I have not posted here for a year. It’s not been because I forgot but rather very busy with www.5dme.net Premier Adelaide Aviation.
I thought I’d just drop in and post to let you know about a new web video series called, “A Working Airport” that we have been involved with the production.
The series is going to be a 12 part series about the day to day operations of a major airport. It will include everything from admin through to the flight line. Things like ARFF or Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting and FOD checks will be a great interest story.
There are so many things that go into running an airport that it could conceivably take more than 12 episodes but we will see how it goes.
On Monday 18th June 2012, 5DME attended the RAAF Base at Edinburgh, South Australia for a look at a US Navy P8 aircraft. For those that have been following this story, the P8 will be replacing the RAAF Orion fleet. Eight of these amazing aircraft are heading our way. The P8s are to replace the RAAF’s aging Orion fleet by 2018 with 8 being delivered by that time. James Detwiler from Boeing explains the p8 and many of its features.

Last weekend the 5DME crew were invited to the Australian Women Pilots’ Association BBQ at Goolwa Airfield here in South Australia. We enjoyed a great afternoon and a good feed with members of the association and their families. A couple of fly-in visitors attended but due to weather over Adelaide most chose to drive down for the day.
Also, the AWPA is holding their fund raising dinner in July. If you would like to attend more information can be found out HERE

Recently the Aviation Media crew attended the CFS Base at Brukunga in the Adelaide Hills to record an interview with one of the pilots of the Bell 205s used for fire fighting. The story covers the role the aircraft take in the aerial fire fighting contingent, plus some information and specifications on the Bell 205 for the enthusiasts. The story will go live late Tuesday afternoon (24th Jan 12) on 5DME Adelaide Aviation web site. www.5dme.net
On Sunday 13 November 2011 the Aldinga Aero Club held its annual Fun Flight event for children with life threatening illnesses. Fun Flight is where pilots give up their time, plane and fuel costs to take children and their immediate family on joy flights for the day. A break away from what can be stressful times. Aviation Media attended again this year with the team from 5DME.NET and recorded the event for the aero club and Fun Flight.
We had a team of six on the ground taking photos and recording video. The aim was to capture an image of everone that participated with the day. All up there were about 80 children and family members and over a period of four hours the pilots flew 44 sorties. The 5DME team did a great job, it was non-stop.
