Recently Aviation Media helped produce several videos for promotion of SAAM on the web. This included their own web site and 5DME.NET. Three of the videos were for SAAM’s participation in the Port Festival and the fourth is for an upcoming Open Cockpit Day and Engine Run.

New AFP Building – Adelaide Airport

Construction has started on a new Adelaide Airport office complex, which will house the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and its on-airport operations.

The 2,400 square metre building within the airport’s Export Park precinct includes two storeys of office space, undercroft car parking, and will have a 4-star Green Star and 4½-star NABERS rating.  The premises will be leased exclusively to the AFP.

Adelaide Airport Ltd (AAL) Managing Director, Phil Baker, said the project will be undertaken by Sarah Constructions and is scheduled for completion in mid 2012.

Mr Baker said investment in commercial property development was a very important part of AAL’s business.

“The AFP building is the latest in a number of recent on-airport developments. These developments and commercial leasing opportunities significantly contribute to our ability to upgrade our core infrastructure, such as the new multi-level car park and planned expansion of Terminal 1,” Mr Baker said.

“We’ve recently seen the completion of the 18,000 square metre Manuele Engineering steel fabrication complex in the Morphett Precinct, and Boart Longyear has moved into its new office and technological warehouse in Burbridge Business Park.

“There have also been several strategic relocations over the past year to make way for the new car park and pedestrian plaza, and associated changes to the road network.”

Mr Baker said commercial property opportunities had proved popular at Adelaide Airport because of its excellent multiple transport links and its close proximity to the CBD.

The airport also offered a range of on-airport services including cafes, retail precincts, a supermarket and even a childcare centre.

Significant commercial development opportunities still remain at the airport.

5DME Premier Adelaide Aviation 3rd Anniversary

Nearly 3 years marked the starting of construction for the 5DME aviation web site. Well, three years later it is over 120 pages, thousands of photos and all the stories on the latest aviation news from South Australia fill the pages.

The team has grown from just David and Rob and the site now covers several airfields from Goolwa to Edinburgh RAAF base and abroad.

5DME have endeavoured to include everyone from aviation, no matter what their job or where they fit in. All too often everything and everyone but the planes and pilots are forgotten. It has been policy to promote aviation as a whole.

5DME have moved from just photographs to the production of informative videos using David’s 25 years experience in television. This has added another facet to the web site to generate interest in aviation.

Enough said, just take a look for yourself.

Adelaide Airport Video 2-8-11

This week there were some major changes going on at Adelaide Airport with the opening of the new Western Link Road. On Monday night, 1st August 2011 the WATPAC construction crews adjusted the barricades to close off Sir Richard Williams Avenue to allow further construction of the new Multi Level Car Park. Traffic is being redirected down Jame Schofield Drive and the new roadway that was constrcted across the old General Aviation (GA) area.

Patricia and I were there at about 2330 hours producing a video for which you may have seen on the front page of this site. We used some new gear that I have mentioned in the Blog before, a suction/limpet mount system on the car for the cameras.

The limpet mount performed excellently! Vibration was at a minimum and the Active Steadyshot in the camera took care of the rest. The 3 points of contact with the mount increased the stability enormously.

Also, we did not use any lighting for the talking head pieces as we wanted to reflect the hour of the day. The street lighting was enough for the Exmor sensor in the camera.

Here is the video:

Changes at Adelaide Airport

With all the current changes at Adelaide Airport, Aviation Media will be there this week and next week producing video segments for 5DME.NET.

In the coming week, around the 27th of July 2011 Sir Richard Williams Avenue will be closed so construction crews can proceed with the multi level car park. Aviation Media will be showing the construction progress and holding interviews with Aviation Historian, Nigel Daw.

Our crew has been documenting all the changes including the new control tower which is due to be in service early next year. The material will be available on the web site next week.

New Control Tower Coverage by 5DME.NET

Local aviation web site has been covering the new state-of-the-art control tower construction since the ground breaking ceremony in 2010. Aviation Media has been providing many of the images you see relating to the new tower. Our images and video for 5DME has been the only complete coverage of the project.

Adelaide Control Tower Footings

Concrete piers were set down some 29 metres into the ground.

Adelaide Control Tower Metal Work

A substantial amount of wire mesh and steel rods were installed for the footings.

Continuous pour concrete core

Concrete was continuosly poured day and night until the core reached about 21 metres in height.

Main Tower Core

The 21 metre core had a pre-cast concrete flared section added and the cabin will be built on top. This will make the overall height around 44 metres.

5DME Coverage

There are over 400 images in the 5DME Galleries and many videos about the construction on the 5DME web site.

For a complete listing of images that date back to the beginning of construction you can visit the 5DME PHOTO GALLERY

Latest work at Adelaide Airport

We’ve been documenting the Adelaide Airport redevelopment for the aviation community web site 5DME.NET. This has included lots of photographic work and several web videos.

There is video imagery of the works, including the new multi-level car park and the state of the art control tower. We have also produced several interview videos with John McArdle, Corporate Relations Manger for Adelaide Airport Limited.
